At Sea
Yay! We are back in the tropics! It started off rainy this morning, and very humid. Then the sun came out, and we moved to the pool. It was lovely sitting outdoors again, and slipping in and out of the pool to cool off. There were too many people milling around (and at times I was one of them chatting to Roscoe and finding out what is actually happening on the ship. How come he knows all of this?) to do any serious swimming, but it felt so great to be in the water again.
It is hard to think that a few days ago we were shivering out on deck in the New Zealand Sounds, and now we are complaining that it is too hot. That is another great thing about world cruises. Usually a cruise is hot (Caribbean) or cold (Alaska), but this is both, what fun!
With the “float your boat” competition getting closer and closer, I have been searching the ship for potential supplies. These are now being hidden in the already over crowded cabin. The boat will be a beauty when it is finished. I have to find someone in the Grills who will let me try it out in their bath tub, preferably Queens so I can see how she does with the whirlpool jets going. Although our shower is very slow to drain it is not deep enough to float anything except a bar of soap. If I fail in my quest to find an obliging Grills person we will have to do the sea trials in the pool in the dead of night.
When I went to get ready for tonight’s formal night – Neptune Ball, I really couldn’t think of anything meaningful I had achieved today, and that is actually OK. You don’t have to achieve something every day. Brian still has a problem with that though. Maybe my achievement of the day will be fitting into my blue long dress, which might be a challenge. No dessert tonight methinks.
Well there was bread and butter pudding with custard on the menu, so that ended the no dessert day plan. And my large Neptune night seahorse and mermaid shawl adequately hid the fact that the poor dress is straining at the seams.
The show tonight was Hollywood Rocks, one of the Royal Cunard Singers and Dancers production shows. It is not my favorite; as they seem to have a rather random selection of movies to showcase, but the costumes and dancers are great, and I enjoy listening to Carl and David sing.
A short time into the show there was a problem with the mechanics of the moving portion of the stage and they had to stop the show. The curtains were closed and we sat and talked among ourselves until several minutes later Neil came onto the stage and reported that the problem was fixed and the show would go on. The performers didn’t miss a beat and went straight into full show mode. They really are very professional. Maybe I like the show as they do quite a few Abba numbers. They do them very, very well. It makes me want to get up and dance in the aisles, but Brian always seems to find us a seat where that would not be possible. Hmmmmm………….
Eagerly awaiting the results of your boat competition as we have already signed you up for next year’s Newport Beach Holiday Boat Parade. Do us proud, Safarigirl, and cruise on!
