Somewhere between the escargot and the Chateau Briande as we sat on the open deck behind the Colonnade Restaurant eating our dinner, watching a beautiful sunset over St Tropez, our beloved queen passed away. I had toasted her with champagne at the beginning of the meal, wishing her good health as she seemed to be failing. Now she has gone. I am not sure I am quite ready to toast our new king. But I will. I have memories of dancing with Prince Charles back in 1969. He wasn’t a bad dancer. I am sure he will be a good king. I’m just not ready now.

For those of us who’ve known no other monarch, it’s the end of an era. The matriarchal stability HM has given us has gone. Hopefully our new king will continue her legacy. All we can do is to KBO.
