We Board Queen Mary 2

Finally, the day arrived! After a wonderful brunch with friends in Brooklyn we went back to the hotel, collected our luggage, and we were off to the Red Hook cruise terminal.

We turn a corner, and our big girl comes into view. Every time I see Queen Mary 2, I get so excited. I can’t wait to get on board. Luckily it didn’t take long at all.

Our boarding time was 3:15. There were no other cars when we arrived, so it was easy to unload the luggage. We went inside the terminal, showed the agent our boarding passes, vaccination certificates, health questionnaire, and negative COVID tests reports from 2 days ago, and she wrote “OK” on the boarding passes. Although we had been told that there would not be priority boarding for World Club members, clearly there was. Off we went to security. No delay there.

Straight through security, no worries about the champagne and single malt whisky in our bags. Then we met our only queue. We had to tell the agent verbally all of the answers to the health questionnaire we had just completed online and shown to the first agent. Oh well, it didn’t take too long.

Next, we went to another agent who checked our passports, and the photos we had downloaded on the My Cunard site, and off we went to board our ship. All very easy, less than half an hour suits me just fine.

Our suitcases arrived in no time, and we were soon settled in and ready to watch the sail away from our balcony. There was no sail away party – but it was the perfect evening for watching from the comfort of our stateroom.

Late seating dinner in the Britannia restaurant was delicious. I really don’t like the anytime dining they are doing at the moment, as I much prefer knowing what time I will be dining and with whom every night. Hopefully this will not be a permanent change. We were pleasantly surprised when Clark, who had been our waiter on our 2019 cruises came over to say hello to us. The staff here are totally amazing. These last 2 years must have been so hard for them. I really admire them.

After dinner we headed up to my favorite place on the ship, the Commodore Club. We had a nightcap and listened to Campbell on the piano. I was really in my happy place again 

Hopefully my previous comment comes thru.

I don’t seem to be able to “subscribe”. I fill out the email address but nothing seems to happen when I click the arrow.

Okay, looks like the first comment went into”never, never” land

I know you’ve posted from the QM2 many times. I’m hoping to sail on her in the fall of 2023 for the first time (and probably first post Covid, too)

Would you share a bit about how it feels onboard and what changes you think Cunard has made (will change as time goes by, I’m sure).

So good to have you sailing again 😌

Yes indeed I will comment on life on board QM2 in the time of COVID!

Ah, the joys of an upgrade! Brian is working on that at the moment – hopefully we will have it sorted out soon. Sorry!
