Prologue

I was sitting at my computer at work yesterday, staring out the window at the mounds of snow piled up on the ground outside. I was struggling with completing a mandatory web based learning management system course. This was not only problematic because my computer has issues with even the simplest of tasks, but because of the course material. The course involved policies concerning the retention of employment related information, including that stored on PDAs and floppy disks. Now my computer is old, but it doesn’t have a floppy disk drive. Who still uses PDAs?

Normally I would have been incensed that no one had bothered to update the course material, but not today. No way. This time next week instead of looking out on snow, I will be looking out at sand dunes. Instead of doing battle with my computer, I will be riding a camel. And best of all, I will be sleeping in a cabin on the QE2. Now that’s enough to get anyone through the most frustrating days at work.

Next Thursday we will leave all of the snow and the drama of work behind us, and fly to Dubai where we will stay at the Queen Elizabeth 2 Hotel for 3 nights prior to joining Queen Mary 2 for a sailing the New York. We will disembark in Brooklyn, and fly home from JFK, which is in the borough of Queens. Queens2Queens has the potential to be a whole lot of fun!

Tomorrow I will be armed with a bottle of cava (no Pol Acker available shore side), and watching Hyacinth miss the QE2 on my favorite Keeping up Appearances episode, “Sea Fever”. Let the packing begin!

What fun. Have a great time. It’s great that the QE2 has a new life even if she doesn’t sail.

I do have mixed feelings about seeing her as a hotel, but I am still really looking forward to being on board again! We will miss having you with us and looking at those amazing photos. Maybe another year?

I’ll try to connect with regular email to get the conversation off your blog 😉 – but probably not until I’m home.
