At Sea
Boat Building Day
After I returned from my craft session our boat building team, Rod, Deborah, Martin, Rita and the 2 of us reconvened in our cabin to construct our ship. We made some minimal alterations to our original plan, and set about the task of the building. Well it was mostly Brian and Rod, but the rest of us did help out when called upon. Too many cooks and all that.
By lunchtime we were ready to see if there was any chance it would float. We had failed in our mission to secure a bathtub in the Grills, and had decided to not take Roscoe up on his suggestion of us using the Commodore’s bathtub. I could just see me phoning the bride and asking the Commodore if he would mind not steering the ship for a while and go to his cabin to fill his bathtub so we could see if our boat floats.
So that left no option other than the pool. We wrapped the boat up in towels to cunningly disguise it and headed up to deck 9. The pool was still closed, rats, but the hot tubs were open. So trying very hard to conceal what we were up to, under the watchful eyes of the folks sunbathing around the pool, we did our sea trial. It floats!!!!!!! There was much happiness in the team, and we headed back to our cabin to do the finishing touches, and drink VC and beer to celebrate the team work.
We had our last World Cruise party tonight. Yes, we were invited to this! Luckily it was the roaring 20s formal night, my favourite. I got to wear my new black feather boa from Walmart. My 20s hairpiece still wouldn’t stay put in my hair. I may have to leave it on the ship, I have tried to get it to work on numerous occasions, but it continues to fail me. I managed to get dressed without getting the fringes on the dress snagged too many times, and in a flurry of feathers we headed off to the party in the Queens Room.
The food at the party was excellent, and the world cruise cake was there. I have heard a variety of reports about the cake, and whether it is real or not. Whatever it is made from, it always looks spectacular. We drank bubbly and ate lobster while hanging out with our favorite people. It was a fun party. Roscoe was there of course looking totally splendid, see photo below.
My boa continued to shed feathers everywhere, but I was not alone. Everywhere we went on the ship there were tell tale black and white feathers there. House keeping must not enjoy roaring 20s night.
Dinner was up to the usual excellent formal night standard although none of the desserts appealed to me. Our waiter, Ryan, brought me fresh strawberries and ice cream instead. They were very sweet and totally delicious. A great way to end the meal.
We went up to the Commodore Club to listen to Carlo, and I decided enough was enough. I went up to the bar armed with my Milky Way recipe and requested that one be made for me. Sure enough, minutes later, a Milky Way Martini arrived. Yum! Chocolate Affairs are good, but nothing beats a real Milky Way. I do wish I had requested one 83 days ago, but then on the other hand our bar bill may have been totally out of control if I had. We sat drinking, listening to Carlo and chatting to Roscoe and Kim and Deidre. It was the perfectly relaxed evening. All of a sudden it was 1:00 AM, and definitely time for bed!
Hi Remember us!!!! I see you referred to us in your blog. I see you had a wonderful time. When we left the ship in FL we were going to Orlando and then planed to go to New Orleans with dfriends. We both became uite ill for about 10 days so couldnt go and went on a couple of day trips to Sarasota and Tarpon springs which is a coast town on west coast of Florida. Very greek and really nice!
We are having a wonderful time, but we do miss you 2 and drinks in your cabin. Only a few days more, and then back to reality! I’m not sure I’m ready for that. Meeting you guys in the Jury’s Inn only seems like yesterday!
