Sojourn Day 74

At Sea

February 11th, 2025

I was not alone when I arrived in the Observation Bar this morning.

Was this part of some sort of emergency drill, or maybe even a real emergency? We are still in the pirate infested Gulf of Guinea, are pirates on the horizon? This was very strange.

Then several of the deck officers arrived and started laying fire hoses around the room. This was getting weird.

Next, they placed a chair between the fire hoses. Something was going on.

I consulted the Herald.

Then all became clear. Today was the day for the Golf Masters. We were encouraged to join our Seabourn Team today for a round of golf! We could pitch and putt our way around the ship where we will find a course laid out for us with each hole set up by a different department on board. There are 9 holes in all. That sounded like fun! I am hopeless at miniature golf, so I decided to watch rather than participate.

The deck officers were very serious about the course in the Observation Bar, with many challenges to be overcome

Before reaching the hole.

The bar staff had an interesting course down on the pool deck.

And the engineering department had an unusual one in the atrium where a buzzer went off when a ball went in the hole.

All of the participants seemed to be having a fun time, and it was great to see how creative the different departments were in putting together the course

We have been on the Sojourn for 74 days and had not been to afternoon tea yet. We decided that this had to be rectified, and at 4:00 PM we arrived in the Observation Bar to check things out.

The bar looked quite different with all of the tables set for tea.

We sat down and were immediately presented with a tower of delicious looking goodies.

There was a choice of clotted or whipped cream for your scone.

Our tea arrived with a timer, so you could choose how long you wanted the infuser to be in the water.

All very civilized. There was no white glove service, but to get your tea from tea leaves brewed to your satisfaction rather than a tea bag, or a pot of tea that was made in the kitchen some time before it was served to you, was a nice touch.

No harp, but soft piano music in the background worked for me. Afternoon tea is a definite hit as far as I am concerned!

Tonight was the crew talent show. All of the acts were very professional, and it was hard to choose a winner.

However, my favorite was Ethan who gave us a totally original, and rather mad cap performance. He is so talented, and although I am not sure I fully understood his act, he put his heart and soul into such an original performance.

Las Palmas, Gran Canaria February 19th, 2025 We are back in Europe! I must say that the port didn’t look very exciting, and there were no souvenir stalls in sight, no dancers or drummers, no cranes or rusty ships, just a very non-descript dock....
