Walvis Bay, Namibia

Our stay in Walvis Bay was an overnight one, so we were still there in the morning.

It was hard to decide how to spend our day. I hadn’t booked a tour as I thought we might be exhausted after our safari, and I was also concerned that our flight from Mokuti may not have been able to land yesterday if there were adverse weather conditions as there often are, and then we would only be getting to Walvis Bay today.

As we walked out of the port there were many taxi drivers offering tours, but in the end we decided not to take a tour. We had a wonderful tour here the last time we visited, but this time we decided to take it easy, do some swimming, and most importantly stock up on chocolates and nuts as we were not sure what our next ports would bring in terms of buying Peppermint Aeros and Cadbury Flakes.

We took the shuttle bus to the Dunes Mall. The mall is large, modern, and full of shops and people. The malls we go to back home are in a very sorry state. Lots of vacant spaces, low quality chain stores, and really not much to entice you inside.

This one is different. No empty stores. Lots of interesting stores, especially the home goods ones which I had to avoid lest I emerge with yet another Le Creuset saucepan.

We were able to purchase my provisions at one of the large well stocked supermarkets,

And then I got to have a toasted chicken mayo sandwich (my favorite) for lunch at the local Mugg and Bean. They also had a great chocolate milkshake. All was well with the world.

After lunch and looking around at more shops, we took the shuttle back to the ship

Back on board, Nick entertained us for the sail away.

Although it was windy we had no need for a tug to help get us out to sea, but one was there anyway, just in case.

There was no show tonight, just a deck dance party.

Normally I love these, but it was freezing on deck, and so I spent most of the time wrapped up in a blanket when we were not dancing.

Still it was a fun way to end the evening, as we headed north towards Benin.I do hope the weather will improve.
