At Sea

It is so interesting. I looked out the window this morning and the Atlantic looked as smooth as a mill pond. However, the ship is still pitching, and walking around is a challenge. All very strange.

The deck crew were out power washing the area in front of the Observation Bar this morning. It was again caked in a thick crust of salt. Well, that’s the Atlantic for you.

At his noon announcement the captain said that we are experiencing 4 meter swells, and that will go on for the rest of the day. However, the seasickness bags have not made another appearance, so hopefully all is well with those who don’t enjoy the motion as much as I do.

The weather is much cooler, but there wasn’t much wind, so I decided to try the deck 8 pool. The water is really warm there. Unlike the pool on deck 5 where I can stand to do my water exercises, the deck 8 pool is too deep for that. That makes it quite the challenge. My friend, Ilise was in the pool working out with apparent ease. She took pity on me and leant me her aqua dumbbells, and low and behold I was no longer floundering and at risk for disappearing under water. So I had a good workout. The water in the pool was sloshing around all over the place, which added to the difficulty of doing my routine, but I persevered and felt very pleased with myself.

It was only after I lay in the sun afterwards to dry off that I realized that there was no one else going into the pool. I was surrounded by folks sipping pina coladas and reading their novels, who showed no sign of wanting to do anything else. They were really missing out. It had been such fun in the pool. And I felt very virtuous for my attempt to burn off some calories.

Ninety guests will be disembarking tomorrow in Las Palmas, but they will be replaced by 115 new guests, and then the ship will be at capacity. They always have a farewell program at the end of each cruise, and this is usually held by the pool.

With the weather the way it is, it was decided to move the program indoors to the Grand Salon. Somehow it works better by the pool, but that was not going to happen today.

I think the farewell is such a lovely way for the guests to say thank you and goodbye to the crew. Most of the senior officers are there, as are representatives from the different departments on the ship.

The officers had no problems holding up the Sojourn banner today, last time they ended up with it upside down.

Among the staff from the housekeeping department were our suite attendants Camilla and Pier. They are both so hard working and experts in towel creature construction.

After the crew left, 2 of the singers from the Seabourn 6, Ronni and Jay, treated us to a beautiful performance of some great classical songs, including my favorite aria from La Traviata so I was very happy.

Showtime tonight featured Kieran Alleyne who is taking a break from playing Michael Jackson in MJ The Musical in the West End in London. I must admit, I am not a Michael Jackson fan, but he did a great job singing and dancing just like MJ so I was impressed.

I would just have liked to hear more from Ronni and Jay. Alas, they really are more my cup of tea when it comes to performers.

No after the show drinks in the Observation Bar tonight, we have to get ready for our big hike tomorrow. We are going to be hiking on a volcano and that sounds like a lot of fun!
