Happy New Year!

I do love the rose that appeared in our suite last night,

and our little penguin is still celebrating the New Year.

The New Year’s decorations around the ship have disappeared, but luckily the snowflakes remain, reminding us that it is still the festive season.

I had hoped there would be some kind of celebratory New Year’s brunch, but alas today was just like an ordinary day with no special events. Not even the Vienna New Year’s concert on TV. Still, any day on Sojourn is a good day, so no complaints.

It was also a lazy day, and I really didn’t do much at all. We had a very low score at team trivia, missing some answers that we should have known (e.g. which planet has the most moons?).Rhys has taken over from Georgia and Derek – a very tough act to follow. However, he is doing a superb job jumping right in to the fun and intrigue of team trivia. We do miss his predecessors, but love having him on board. Every single one of the entertainment staff has been really excellent. There are many complaints about standards slipping on Seabourn, and there is no doubt they are, but the staff remain fantastic.

Despite having a lazy day I did get to go to the craft session. The only craft projects on this cruise have involved beading. I do enjoy beading, but I am not sure how many pieces of beaded jewelry I really need. I would love to do other projects, but I don’t think this will happen. Still, one more bracelet may be fun.

I had no problems feeding the fiddly little beads on to the 3 wires, but plaiting them was not that easy, and sure enough there were soon beads jumping off the wires and flying all over the place.

I was determined to make it work, and eventually I had something that looked somewhat like a bracelet. I was very happy. The problem was when I tried to get help finishing the clasp I was told that it was rather long. Oh no! Indeed, it was way too long to be a bracelet, and too short to be a necklace. I was faced with challenge of unplaiting the object and remaking a shorter version of it. I was kind of done with tiny escaping beads, but was there any choice? Yes, I tied a knot in it, as if it really was part of the design. Success!

Has anyone noticed the clocks around the ship? I love them! They look like giant watches. They are great fun.

We finished dinner quite early, so we decided to go back to our suite and catch up with one of the talks we had missed during the day. It was a great talk, but we fell asleep and only woke up at 9:30, too late to go to the evening show. Obviously, staying up so late last night was too much for us. Alas, we are getting old. Gone are the days of dancing all night………..
