Sojourn Day 8

At Sea

December 7th, 2024

It’s hard to believe that had this been a 7 day cruise we would be disembarking today. I am only getting into the routine of life at sea, I would hate to have to disembark already. Thank goodness we have weeks of cruising ahead of relaxing ahead of us.

Not that things are particularly relaxing on board. The schedule continues to be filled with interesting enrichment talks, and every other day there are 2 craft sessions, so I am kep very busy.

Also, lest we become bored, today the staff had Spritz and Splashby the pool. There was an assortment of sparking beverages to try out.

I tried the Limoncello one thinking it would be delicious. It wasn’t. They must have adulterated it with gin or something, it was very nasty. So much for trying to be adventurous, I ordered a glass of champagne and sat back and enjoyed the music and capapes by the pool.

One of the cruise staff, Dereck, walked around the pool waving a Seabourn flag. Something was up.

Then we were asked to join the staff for a quick dip in the pool. Only one passenger was game to join them, the rest of us sat by the pool sipping our bubbly drinks and cheering them on.

Apparently the water was quite warm, but I decided it was still far too cold for me. We may be in the tropics, but the pool still has a lot of warming up to do before I am venturing in.

Oh my, where did they go?

Ah, here they are again. Phew!

It may not be warm enough to swim, but it is warm enough to sit out on the balcony finally. Our suite is on deck 5, where they have metal fronted balconies. I had been concerned that it might totally obscure the view of the water when you look out to see.

Well I must say that you certainly can’t see through the metal, but it isn’t too bad, you do get a bit of a view. And I do love that all of the balconies have proper wooden decking, not that fake plastic stuff.

We have been on the ship for a week, and haven’t tried the sushi bar at the Club as yet. We decided that that would be our venue for dinner tonight.

The sushi was OK, but not spectacular. I think it is great that they do have a sushi bar, but I think we have been spoilt by the sushi we have had on other ships. It was nice for a change however, and I look forward to going there again.

We are at the end of our 4 days at sea, tomorrow we will be in the Cape Verde islands. This will be a new country for Brian. I have stopped over at the airport on Ilha Do Sal many times during the 70s.

Flights would stop there for refueling, and so everyone had to get off the plane in the middle of the night and under the watchful gaze of armed soldiers, we were herded into some sort of warehouse and supplied with warm orange juice, which made me extremely ill on one occasion. My introduction to the Cape Verde islands leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. And I will definitely avoid the orange juice.
