Queen Anne Day 23

At Sea

May 25th, 2024

Gone was the Southampton sunshine, the weather got worse as we moved north.

Still, after my pain au chocolat and orange juice I was ready to face the day.

There was not much to see from the Commodore Club. No chance to see us sailing past England’s green and pleasant land.

I decided to go and see if the shop had any new Queen Anne merchandise. I would love a scarf, but even a tea towel would be nice. No such luck, but they were setting up tables of cheap merchandise outside the shops. This is the first time they have done this, and I really had hoped that they would not have the cheap sale goods on Queen Anne. Still the tables themselves were attractive even if the merchandise wasn’t.

Meanwhile back at the stateroom Deirdre was dealing with serious shower issues.

She innocently went to have a shower, but the shower handle came off in her hand and next thing you know there was hot water spouting all over the place causing a flood. Not a good start to her day.

Fortunately the plumber came by to rectify the situation, and it was safe to go back into the bathroom again in time for us to get ready for dinner.

Tonight was the first gala evening, with the black and white theme.

There was no captain’s welcome onboard party. Have they totally done away with this? Maybe there is nowhere on the ship to hold such a large function. That’s what happens when you downsize the Queens Room and fill it with cafeteria furniture. Still, I do miss the party and the people watching that goes with it.

We did get a free glass of bubbly at dinner, and cherries jubilee for dessert, so all was not lost.

We decided to go to the Queens Room to watch the dancing, but just as we found seats the music and the dancing stopped, and the ceiling dangling acrobats appeared again. It was interesting to watch, but martinis in the Commodore Club were calling out to us, and who were we to not heed the call?

We ended the evening sipping on our martinis and listening to the music. Yes, life is good.
