Wednesday March 27th
Wow the schedule is jam packed again! The first lecture we went to was the best so far. It was by an engineer called John Laverick on “Reliving the Excitement of Travel on Cunard’s First Liner” and it involved footage of the Waverley. I had taken my Mum and daughter in law, Carrie, on her in 2015 and we had a wonderful day out. I am so glad that the Waverley is still going strong.
We then went to the Commodore Club to work on our computers, and were treated to seeing a huge pod of dolphins playing next to our bow! It was a beautiful sight, and totally made my day.
We had been able to find the 2 missing items for yesterday’s scavenger hunt, so we completed our task, and were able to get 2 stamps in our activities book. On a previous trip I had only ended up with a total of 2 stamps at the end of the crossing, and all that got me was a Cunard pencil. I hope we get more stamps on this trip as we already have a handy dandy Cunard pencil, and really don’t need another one.
I made it to the craft class today, and am in the middle of constructing a silk necklace. This is going to be quite unusual looking, but is fun to make as it involves stuffing cotton wool balls into a tube. Not something I have done before.
I had meant to go to tea today, but I missed it completely as I was too busy chatting to the crafting ladies. Well there is always tomorrow.
I am now feeling completely back at home on QM2. This is such a wonderful way of life. The days are already beginning to merge into each other, and the joy of a longer voyage is that you don’t feel the pressure to fit everything in at once. You can just sit back and relax and enjoy the moment of being on this beautiful liner.
It has been interesting staying on QE2 and now being on QM2. I still love QE2, and there really isn’t anything else like her. But the grandeur of the rooms on Mary, the open spaces, the variety of interesting things to do, are all wonderful. As I sit on my balcony having sundowners I realize that there is absolutely no point comparing the two ships. Each is spectacular in her own way. I am just so blessed to be able to experience both. Long live the Queens!
