At Sea
Spa Day
Our wonderful travel agent, Sue, had given me a voucher for the spa, and today is the day to use it.
I have been on QE for 4 cruises, and have always visited the spa for a pedicure, but never a massage. I decided today that it was time for a massage after so much time walking around foreign ports.
Also, as part of the deal for having a massage, you get to spend time in the Royal Bath House. I was very excited.
My massage went very well. The room had floor to ceiling windows, so although you don’t actually get to admire the view of the sea during a massage, it was good to know the view was there. After the massage I had a shower and relaxed on the heated tile covered beds, watching the view of the water from the large windows. I was falling asleep, so decided it was time to try the hot water pool. It is wonderful. I do prefer a warmer pool, but it is warmer than the hot tubs out on deck. It is deep – the water comes up to my neck, and there are seats on 2 of the edges, where there are soothing bubbler jets. It was perfection, and just what I wanted. I really enjoyed my long soak there. I spent the next few hours moving between the hot tiled beds, hot water pool, and loungers, thinking that this could become a regular activity on future cruises. Maybe again on this cruise. I am so sorry that I didn’t bring my phone with me so I could take photos. Maybe that is a good enough excuse to go back again. Thank you to Sue for giving me the spa voucher.
I had to return back to reality and get ready for the World Cruise Party and formal night. It is the Black and White Ball tonight. I bought a new black dress with a sparkly white jacket while I was at a meeting in Las Vegas earlier this year specifically for tonight, and I am really looking forward to wearing it. It has spread its sparkles all over the closet, so Brian also has a sparkling tuxedo.
The World Cruise Party was in the Yacht Club, and although it was a bit crowded, the smaller space compared to the Queens Room gave it more of a party atmosphere. The appetizers were very tasty, and the sparkling wine very available, so it was a good party altogether. The couple that had sailed the most days on Cunard was a pair of doctors from Seattle. When Brian heard that their number of days sailed was 210, he was excited as that’s close to ours. Then I had to point out that as usual he wasn’t listening, and they had sailed for 3,210 days since their first cruise on the Countess in 1986. I don’t think we will ever get that many days, and I have been cruising on Cunard since 1962.
We were having so much fun at the party we ended up being late for dinner, but our tablemates are getting used to it, and didn’t seem to mind. Dinner was excellent yet again; it is going to be so hard not to gain weight on this cruise.
Looking around the dining room it was great to see everyone in their formal clothes. The Black and White Ball night really is my favorite as so many people get into the spirit of black and white. It is so easy to do. There were several ladies in black and white kimonos looking absolutely gorgeous. I felt so happy to be on this beautiful ship on a beautiful evening.
As I spread my sparkles around the ship, we wondered over to the Queen’s Room to watch the International Dance Couple Sergey and Olga do their dance performance. They were introduced as going to do a slow waltz, but it was the fastest waltz I have ever seen, with them spinning around the dance floor in a dangerous looking manner. Still it did look beautiful, and they are a joy to watch.
After that we headed to the Royal Court Theater to listen to Australian soprano Claire Lyon. She sang several songs from “Stage and Screen”, and has a lovely voice, so it was a most enjoyable performance.
Then it was time to head back to the cabin to get ready for our day ashore tomorrow. A very good day at sea, and I hadn’t even taken any photos.
I read the Spa part to my wife, whoood. Nexttrip she says
My daughter did hot rocks on QM2
Hot rocks sounds like a plan!
