DAY 51 – February 24th

At Sea in the Perfect Pacific Ocean

Yes, it’s another totally perfect day. The ocean continues to be an incredible shade of blue; the water is calm, and the sky almost cloudless except for a few puffy white clouds on the horizon.

Apart from 2 stormy days near Bermuda, and the stormy night we missed before Montevideo we really haven’t had much in the way of rough seas. I’m not really complaining, as I know there are people who get sea sick, but a really good day of huge waves would go down well.

Hemisphere is closed off for a private event for Olga and Brandon’s wedding. Two of the crew members. I hear her hen party was quite wild………. Today is certainly the perfect day for them, and wedding music was on my mind.

The afternoon concert was Mark Tanner and Gillian Poznansky’s final performance. Mark plays the piano, Gily the flute. Together they make great music, and today played the same music that Dave and Carrie had at their wedding. All very relaxing. I was inspired by Mark’s playing to purchase his book “The Mindful Pianist”, maybe it will help improve my playing!

Then it was time to catch some more sunshine, and we spent the afternoon at the Lido pool. The Commodore came by and chatted with the sunbathers. He is often seen out and about on the ship, much more than any other captain we have sailed with. He seems to be genuinely interested in how his ship looks, and the experience of his passengers. He really is a good man.

It was another formal night and the South Pacific Ball. Brian wore his white tuxedo jacket and a bright blue bow tie for the occasion, I wore my red dress and tropical flower shawl, and of course a large flower in my hair. We love dressing up for the themed formal nights, although we rarely go to the balls related to the lack of our ballroom dancing skills. Put us in a disco, and we can dance the night away. Not so at a formal ball alas. We would like to take ballroom dancing lessons – but all they seem to have on this cruise is line dancing.

There was another Cunard World Club party tonight, we were not invited. Neither were our table mates Keith and Ann. Like the senior officer’s party it seems that if you belong to the general population, you only get invited to one party per cruise, rather than one party per segment. Although we do know people who get invited to all of the parties, alas we clearly do not merit such an honor. I do love a party, but we sat sipping proper champagne and watching the sunset from our balcony. Even with our ever present very loud neighbors, and although I did miss the opportunity to chat at the party, all in all the balcony option was a success. Even without a green flash.
