At sea
Here it is, Friday the 13th, and here we are in the Bermuda Triangle. Now if that’s not tempting fate, I don’t know what is.
However, the weather is sunny and the water is calmer, and it would be most unlikely if we suddenly disappeared.
We received a card saying that World Cruise memorabilia would be on sale today, so we headed up to the shop before breakfast, but apart from a T-shirt, baseball cap, and polo shirt, there was nothing commemorating the world cruise. I was hoping for a tea towel at least. We did buy a poster of the 6 Cunard Queens. It shows QV in profile as she looks now, before she gets her remodel. I particularly liked the poster for this reason, and also because I have been on all 6 Queens, although Queen Mary was only overnight in Long Beach prior to boarding QV in 2012. Later the captain came to sign books, and signed my logbook, and we chatted about all of the other captains who have signed it over the years. The logbook is not quite a treasure as my BOAC Junior Jet Club logbook, but at least I still have it, the BOAC one got lost in one of our many moves.
We had the final rehearsal for the Queen Victoria Vocalists. We had been told that our concert would be tomorrow, but it turned out to be today. After a quick lunch I changed into a black and white dress (the dress code for the concert was black and white), and with Brian armed with the camera, we headed to the Queen’s Room where the concert was held. I think the concert went jolly well. There was one problem when the piano accompanist was not in sync with the male singers, but in general I thought it was great. I do wish we had been able to sing Jerusalem, but the music they selected was fun, and not too hard to sing.
Then after a quick change I headed up to the beading class to work on my latest creation. I have bought a beading mat to prevent my beads from going everywhere, but I still find it a challenge to control the beads’ movements. I am having fun, but alas seem to lack the skills to make beads act right, and the thread stop tangling.
Tonight was a formal night – roaring twenties. Brian looked quite the part. I wore my fringed flapper dress, with long beads and long black gloves – the dress is great but I was constantly getting the fringes tangled in passing objects which detracts from my intended Lady Mary look. I had to abandon the head band to go with the outfit as my hair refused to cooperate with it. Still, I think we did look the part!
This was the last dinner we would be having with our table mates as we are going to Coriander tomorrow night, and will be getting off the ship in Port Canaveral to drive down to Miami to stay with friends overnight, and board the ship again in Fort Lauderdale. Despite some initial misgivings, I have really enjoyed their company. We are a varied bunch with really nothing in common except a love of travel, but we hit it off well. The food was delicious again. I am eating way too much, and know that I cannot carry on at this rate, but it is so difficult to show self-control.
After dinner we went to the show – Hollywood. It was fantastic, probably the best show we have seen on board for a long time. The singers and dancers are all so talented, and full of energy. I am sure they will do this show again later in the voyage, and I am really looking forward to it.
Hi, just to say we are loving your blog and in a small way being part of your voyage. Looking forward to hearing more. Nick and Claire, Winchester, UK
Thanks – I am having the best time!
